Kaduna Govt Revives Criminal Case Against Former Wazirin Zazzau

Image
The Kaduna State Government has revived the criminal case filed against the former Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Aminu, after a long period without progress in the proceedings. The state government had initially charged Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu with offences bordering on forgery, use of forged documents, and violation of the Official Secrets Act during the selection process of a new Emir of Zazzau following the death of the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, in 2020. The matter was again mentioned before Chief Magistrate Court 1, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna, for continuation of hearing. Speaking with journalists after the court session, the State Counsel from the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice, SS Idris, explained that the case was revived following the appointment of a new magistrate to the court. Bauchi’s Politics of Protection Must Give Way to Accountability

Image
By Usman Dahiru, Bauchi  From the way reports and allegations related to dishonesty continue to emerge concerning former NAPIMS official, Bala Wunti, with reports linking him to allegations of corruption during his time in office, the people of Bauchi State are increasingly beginning to understand the kind of politics that has long been played against them: politics that uses power as a shield against investigation and as a tool for protecting personal interests. The allegations suggesting attempts to use political party structures and closeness to those in power to evade accountability are not surprising to keen observers of Bauchi politics. For a long time, there have been clear signs that some individuals see politics as a refuge for protection rather than an opportunity to serve the people. It is deeply unfortunate that discussions about political ambitions and allocation of positions are taking place at a time when ordinary citizens are battling poverty, insecurity...
